Oh.... go to court and they will ask you why. You have a valid point so they will allow it. Different states have different procedures so better ask from the authorities.

Good luck. ^_^
Reply:You could just change the spelling so that it isn't so obviously unacceptable to you - McNyger means the same thing (named after the River Niger).

In my husband's family, they were illiterate refugees from the Baltic State and there are 3 different ways of spelling the same surname in the same family!
Reply:What do your parents think? I do not thinink it would cost allot to change your name but I would let my parents in on it.
Reply:Your county court house.. talk to the clerk they can tell you the procedure in your jurisdiction.
Reply:You can draw up a petition for a court to to legally change your name. A judge will then rule on the petition. Yours should be a slam dunk. Many people with "unfortunate" last names have successfully changed them. There were several people named "Hitler" who legally had their name changed for obvious reasons. There will be fees to cover the cost of filing and paperwork, but it should be straightforward so you shouldn't have to hire a lawyer.

Contact a legal aid organziation for for advice or consultation on how to go about it, or do an internet search online for details on how to file a petition and how much it will cost.
