The very few listings that I've been able to find at ancestry.com and ellisisland.org have the origin as Italy.
You'll need to trace the person's (or your) specific ancestry through documented records to be sure of the person's origin. You can't determine origin or ethnicity solely by the surname (which is only a tiny piece of one's total ancestry.)
