How do you change your childs last name after you get married?

I am married 2 her father, but b4 we married i gave her my maiden name. Will there be a penalty for this?

How do you change your childs last name after you get married?
No, just take the birth certificate to the courthouse and explain your situation. Your husband may have to go with you.
Reply:Call a lawyer. You may be able to just change her name since he is the dad. If you didn't list him on the birth certificate, then you may need to go through an adoption.
Reply:You would do the same thing you did to change your last name to his. Start with social security and go from there.
Reply:When I had my daughter in 1991, they would not allow us to give her his name NOR would they allow him to put his name on her birth certificate because we were unmarried. When she was 6 years old, we sent away to Lansing (we live in michigan) to have her name changed and his name added to the birth certificate (we were still unmarried but, the laws had changed by then). We also had to pay $70 for it as well. They sent me a new birth certificate withe the name change %26amp; his name added to the father section.

I am sure if differs from state to state. I would check with your local county clerk/court and find out.
Reply:Why did you gave her your name even if you was not married?Did the father did not want be in her life?Any how just got to court house and they will give you the application.
Reply:If her fathers name is on her birth certificate i think you can go to the social security department to do the name change. if her father is not on the birth certificate he will have to adopt her.
