How do I go about changing my last name?

I'm not married or anything. I just want to change my last name, to separate myself from my father and his family who I've been out of contact with for years, and want nothing to do with.

Is it simple to do. I heard it takes a lot of time and generally costs around $150.00 to do.

But how do I do it?

How do I go about changing my last name?
It's very simple to do. You can get everything you need to legally change your last name at - http://www.legalformsbank.biz/namechange... - and you can learn more about the process there.
Reply:if you are in the US,

you petition the court for a name change.

if you don't need a lawyer, i doubt if it costs that much.

in the US , you are allowed to use (almost) any name you want, so long as you aren't using the name for fraudulent purposes.

So - go down to the court house, and ask someone at a window, what forms are necessary - and where you start.
Reply:1 Go to your civil registry and relate your plight or

2 go to law library or purchase a civil code and go to change of name

see the grounds for change of name whether or not you can avail of it.

3.see a lawyer if you can
Reply:A paralegal document preparation service will probably be a good place to have the paperwork done. You can also check out Nolo Press self-help books at your local library or a bookstore.
