What country did the last name STANEK originate from?
Stanek info I found on Ancestry.com

Latinized form of an old Slavonic personal name composed of the elements stan government + slav glory. St Stanislas Szczepanowski (1030-79) was a bishop of Cracow who was killed by King Boleslaw the Cruel of Poland. Variant: Stanislaus.

Cognates: Polish: Stanislaw. Czech, Russian: Stanislav.

Feminine forms: Polish: Stanislawa. Czech: Stanislava.

Pet forms: Polish: Stasiakm.. Czech: St谩nam., f.; Stanek, Stanko, Stan铆(ce)k, Stanous(ek)m.; St谩nicka, Stanuskaf..

Hope it was helpful.

Reply:If you run it through familysearch.org, it brings up actual locations where the name has been found in records, which is several places in Eastern Europe.

This can get tricky.. especially for persons whose ancestry is actually Polish. Poland is historically known for being wiped out and partitioned between different countries ie Germany, Austria, Russia. Thus (like my grandfather), a census record in early 1900 would possibly say he was born in Germany.. which..AT THE TIME OF HIS BIRTH.. was the right political title, but it is what is known as Poland today.

The most/only accurate way is to trace back and find the immigrant ancestor and his origin. Using ancestry.com, you often can locate the actual ship records, or documents that specify the exact town.
