Is it necessary to change your last name on mortgage documents after you get married?

The house is in my name only and we plan to leave it that way. My last name has been legally changed through social security, etc. Do I need to revise all the mortgage documents? Will it matter when I sell the house?

Nope.

What happens when you sell the house is that you will sign the deed as Mary Doe f/k/a Mary Fawn; and in your affidavit of title you will list your marital history, i.e. Mary Fawn married Jim Doe on 12/321/08 in _____ County, etc.
Reply:It's not necessary to change the mortgage documents and the bank will not change them.

You don't rewrite a mortgage note for a name change post closing folks!

As long as the bank can prove that Jane Smith and Jane Doe are the same person, it's still legally binding...that is why they don't change them.

Have never seen such a thing done in my career.
Reply:If your name has changed on any method of payment (e.g., credit cards, bank accounts-checks) then yes you will need to change it. I think all of your financial info changes or should change too once your name on your social changes, that could cause a mess one day? I would change it (even though all of that is such a hassle! I know!)
Reply:You'll have to sign affidavits left and right if you don't change your name before you sell. It's probably best to just change it now on everything and be done with it.
