Can a mother after giving birth give her child the fathers last name even if not present?

The father may be doing time in jail. How does someone go about doing this?


In the state of Arizona.


And PLEASE no comments about well he shouldnt be in jail.. Everyone makes mistakes, in this case just doing what he's gotta do.

You need to write to the prison concerned i presume to the Governor and see what he says,i have heard of this before but it also depends on what sort of crime was committed to whether they allow the baby's father to be present good luck
Reply:You may have to go about it differently, you can name the child after him but doe she have to sign in arizona to be on the birth certificut. Some states they Have to sign to be on it. I would call the office that does birth certificuts and name changes and ask because his cercumstances are different.
Reply:You can name your child anything you want. Last names aren't controlled by the government, technically could name your child George Bush if you wanted. The only thing you need the father to do is sign the paternity papers if he wants to be named as the father on the birth certificate.
Reply:You can give your child ANY last name you want to. My baby daddy was in prison and I gave my daughter his last name and put him on the birth certificate. I wish I would have just given her my last name, and I am currently changing it. You may or maynot regret it later.
Reply:You can give the baby what ever name you want,you don't even have to give the baby your last name.You do however have to give the baby a last name.





I gave my daughter my last name and her fathers last name,and he wasn't present at her birth.
Reply:I know in NJ the mother can't. The father has to present,but if he is not he has 1 year to sign the birth cert.Talk to the social worker at the hospital, I am sure the will be able to help you.
Reply:my sister just had a baby and her boyfriend got sent to prison just a week befor tha baby arrived so then just send him papers to sign but when you have the baby you just tell them the name at the hospital and it will be no problem at all
Reply:I believe you can.. You have to check with your state and the hospital your giving birth at. I believe he has to sign the birth certificate...
