How do I find out if a painting is worth alot if all I have is the last name and can't find it online?

It has or looks like cherry bloosom and the Whitehouse(capital) in the painting. The painter last name or maybe first is Wyeth.

Jamie Wyeth painted many images of the White House. Look him up and see if the style is the same. Research the paintings he did with the same subject. You need an appraiser to check it out and authenticate it.
Reply:Hmmm.

Try posting it on eBay, but don't respond to the bids. Then average it out.

Or you can hire an apprasier for an apprasial for the painting.

Good luck!
Reply:try contacting soetheby's in boston. i see them all the time on the T.V's antique road show. they seem to no there stuff %26amp; there auction's bring in big $$$
Reply:Try Sotheby Parke Bernett. I think they've got a website. Flash them the name. If it's worth a go, they'll probably charge a fee.

If it's really worth a go they'll probably offer to work something out.

Anybody would.

It's more reliable than the bureaucracy of a museum or the National Appraisers Institute in West Hollywood. I wonder about those characters.

Subject matter and name is immaterial. Demand, and workmanship. Doesn't matter what the name is. Worse if it's a known artist like Wyeth. It has to be verified. Which one? That sort of thing.

Value is subjective. It may be worth something in the continental U.S. but it's not the same thing overseas. There was a guy who bought something he felt was an unknown Caravaggio and is probably still looking to verify.

I think he paid about a quarter million. If proven it may well be worth a hundred times that in this particular case, if I remember correctly.

Point being this is commerce. People, specially professional people, tend to perform if there is something substantive to it. Hope things work out for you.
Reply:I'd call your local museum and start there. They should be able to help you. Good luck. I hope the painting is worth a bundle!
