Why is Barack Obama is referred to by his last name and Hilary Clinton by her first?

Why do you think for the most part people call Barack Obama "Obama" and Hilary Rodam-Clinton "Hilary"?

Why is Barack Obama is referred to by his last name and Hilary Clinton by her first?
Because there are two clintons in this race. Obama sounds better than Barack....
Reply:Hillary Clinton uses her first name on her campaign signage. I suppose to distinguish her from Bill AND to give her a more friendly, approachable tone.
Reply:its just what people do.

He can also be reffered to as Barack, but people like me, prefer Obama.

I call the Hillary, Clinton.

SO i guess it just goes either way.
Reply:How many Obama's do we know that we could confuse one with the other?

There's only ONE Obama.

How many Clinton's do we know where confusion would set in as soon as the name "Clinton" is mentioned without clarification as to whether it's Hillary or Billary.

There actually are THREE Clintons: Hillary, Billary, and Chelsea(ry).
Reply:Hillary

reminds us of Sir Edmond Hillary her name sake who concored tall mountains

barack sounds like a huge BELCH.
Reply:well, i dont think obama would like to be called hussein
Reply:Well, first, there Bill was President once, so while kinda a stretch its fair to say its reasonable to call Hillary, Hillary to distinguish between the two,

Second, Barack doesn't roll off the tounge like Hillary, if Hillary had kept her own last name, this wouldn't be a problem,

Third, the media tends to call Obama, Obama and Hillary, Hillary which makes it, unfortunately, much easier for us to think in the same terms.
Reply:Both McCain and Obama are referred to by their last names. Maybe Hillary so that she's not confused with Bill????
Reply:Interesting question.....
Reply:Because we know Hilary.

We just met Obama, sorry I still don't know him well enough to call him Barack.

I would call Al Gore, Al. or Bill Clinton, Bill. I would even call George Bush, Sh*@ head.

Inlies our problem as Demacrats. Get it together people. Before Condolezza joinns McCain while we throw mud on eachother. You don't really want Howard Dean to lead the process in deciding?
Reply:Her people's research showed that it's harder to attack her when you call her Hillary. seems like your being mean to a woman and all that.. rather then "Senator Clinton" which makes her more of an open target. So they've pushed folks to say Hillary. it's what is on all her banners and stuff. Obama's say "Obama" and McCain's say "McCain"
Reply:Because we know Hillary and Obama is a stranger.

Because we want to differentiate between Bill and Hillary, rather than just saying "Clinton."
Reply:I think Obama sounds Good! However some would think negatively about his name, considering the way things are in world today."Fear" Of Name %26amp; Religion! Obama has a musical ring or sound to it!

Obama 2008!

Ebony %26amp; Ivory President!
Reply:I heard a speech expert that was commenting on "Babies for Obama" say it was because it was easy to say like Mama or Dada so I guess his supporters just need something not to difficult to say or think about.

Psi
Reply:Clinton will always be Bill, so Hillary is... well Hillary.

And Obama, well... that's his surname.
Reply:I sometimes refer to Barack by his first name. I refer to "Hillary," so people will know I'm not referring to Bill Clinton.
Reply:This is easy

Because McCain and Sen. Clinton's believers want Obama's believers to believe his is Muslim so they can Hopefully change their beliefs and ultimately their votes

It doesn't matter that there are 2 Clinton's only one is running for president now. Everyone knows who's running.
