I just got married and im not sure what to do! any help?

How do you go about changing your last name after marriage?
first off. man! that photo rocks!

as for changing your name. piece a cake.

when you sign the marriage certificate, write in your new last name.

that simple.

let the clerk know. I'm sure that how's it done.

my wife ofcourse did the hyphenated rcap hahaha..I hate it, but oh well.

and btw, the hard part is changing it back if one day you get divorced.

that's where you have to pay big bucks, otherwise, it's free, just change it when you sign on the dotted line and say I do.
Reply:Hi Jay,

If you are Australian, then I recommend taking the stress out of changing your name by getting a change your name kit. I did, and it had all the forms and advice I needed. I tried to do it on my own but I did not know where to start. Check out http://changingyourname.com.au

Reply:when you filled out your marraige liscence one of the questions should have asked if you were changing your last name and then what it would be then you take the marriage liscence to the drivers liscence place show them your name has changed they change it and send you a new one when you get the new one go to the social security office and show them the marriage liscence and your new drivers license and your old social security card and they can get that switched over for you with your new name on it .... hope thats what you were asking for good luck
Reply:When you filed for your marriage license they should have asked you if you were taking your husbands last name or keeping your maiden name. They fill out that information with the papers they file and it becomes a legal name change. As for changing your name on things such as your drivers license and such that is up to you to do. You will have to bring your marriage license to your local department of motor vehicles for a new license. You will also need to bring your marriage license to your local SS office for a new card. Any credit cards, bills, ect. you need to contact each company and let them know you married and need to change your name. They will tell you what they need in order to process that request.
Reply:It is sorta a lot of paperwork. You have to change your license at sec of state, ss card at the ss office and anything else at their place. Like school id, bank, checks etc...

It took me well over a year before everything came in the right name, just start with the important stuff first.

Congrats to you two!!
Reply:you get your marriage certificate in the mail and bring it with you to motor vehicle and fill out name change form..do the same at social security and then contact other bill collectors and other places and do the same. you need the certificate at the bank too. congrats.
Reply:go down to the social security administration and tell them you got married, you might want to bring your marriage certificate.
Reply:You ahve to go to the social security office first, then the DMV. I think thats all! Pretty easy.
Reply:The first time you sign a legal document your name is changed automatically. Like on a check. That is what I was told and that is what I did. We had no problem opening the join checking account.
