How long can I wait to change my last name?

I was married at the courthouse, but am also having a big wedding. I want to wait until after the big wedding to change my name legally. How can this be done? Can I wait that long or do I have to put it in right away?

How long can I wait to change my last name?
JUst because you're married doesn't mean you have to take his last name...EVER, A lot of married women keep their own name,You can change it whenever you want to.
Reply:You can wait.
Reply:whenever you want.. i still havent and was married in May. It's a big pain!
Reply:When your married is when your name changes, then after your wedding you take your marriage license and go to social security and change it there, and then to the DMV and they to will issue you a new drivers license with your married name on it. Congradulations!!!!
Reply:it shouldn't matter.
Reply:you can change it as soon as you are legally married then you can change youre last name
Reply:its ur choice as ur legally wedded wife as u seem obsessed in changing ur suranme rather enjoying wedding party
Reply:I think legally its three monthes. Not to sure about that though. Call the people at the social security office, where you will have to get your new card, and make sure.....although, the way i see it, its not illegal unless you get caught so, just dont get caught

Reply:You don't have to do it right away. When you're ready, go to http://www.namethatbride.com - it's a free site that links to all the name change forms you'll need. Then just print out the forms, fill them out, and send them in to the various agencies, along with a certified copy of your marriage certificate. Good luck!
Reply:Of course, whenever your get ready you go to the SSA with your marriage license and then get a letter from them so you can get your DL changed. Also if you want to change your last name at work you might want to take your marriage license with you.
Reply:you can wait as long as you want.. take your marriage certificate to the dmv and theyll just change it
