My last name is Ivanhoe. Although I know it was a fictional tale by Sir Walter Scott, I would like to know more about the lineage of the name. Who were the Ivanhoes?
What is the lineage of the last name ivanhoe?
It is rare.

has just 45 of them. The same site has a thousand times as many Packs and a gazillion Smiths.

has 42, all in the USA.
Reply:The US Census for 1920 located three families with the Ivanhoe surname in New York as well as one Ivanhoe household each in California and Illinois. It didn't locate where the Ivanhoe surname originated, however.
WordVitalRecords lists 22 US Census results for the surname Ivanhoe along with six probate records, and 251 birth, marriage and death records and 34 SSDI results. Of the two immigrants who came through Ellis Island with the Ivanhoe surname, one was from Antwerp, Belgium, and one was from Jamaica. Perhaps both these men decided to adopt that last name upon reading Sir Walter Scott's novel.
