Why do Rosalie and Jasper have the last name Hale when the other characters have the last name Cullen?

I have always wondered this. Any information would be much appreciated!

Why do Rosalie and Jasper have the last name Hale when the other characters have the last name Cullen?
Because supposedly they are brother and sister - "adopted" into the Cullen family. Remember, for human purposes, Edward, Emmett and Alice are brother's and sisters. That way, they can be mates and be seen publicly without the humans frowning on their behavior.





It would be awkward if they were all supposedly adopted brothers and sisters and they were dating. Instead, you have two family's of siblings under the care of Dr. and Mrs. Cullen.

Reply:Jasper was born as Jasper Whitlock and Rosalie as Rosalie Hale. Rosalie loved her human life and wanted to keep her last name and of course, as stubborn and stuckup as she is, Jasper gave in and took HER last name. They both have the same last name because people thought they looked like twins and were related. PLUS, since theyre are in an adopted family , it would be weird if they were all Cullens and dating eachother....lol
Reply:I think it was to enable them to date their "siblings" IT was openly said they were adopted so there wouldn't be a blood relationship problem for them to date. By keeping a separate last name was an open reminder to everyone.





Remember --- Alice dated jasper and Rosalie dated Emmet and Edward had no one...
Reply:Because Rosalie and Jasper are suppose to be related. If they had Cullen, that means that Rosalie and Emmett, would be brother and sister and the same for Jasper and Alice. So that's why they have the same last name!

Reply:Rosalie's human last name was Hale and she wanted to keep part of her human life. People were always saying that she and Jasper looked like twins so he changed his last name to Hale to keep the people from talking.

People mistaked Jasper and Rosalie as twins, so they just made it easier and made his last name Hale too.
Reply:No jasper does have the last name cullen so does rosalie. hale was their maiden name. just like edwards was masen. so Jasper would be, Jasper Hale Cullen.
