How do you change your last name quickly and inexpensively?

When I got married, I never changed my last name. We have two daughters and they have my last name. My husband and I are about to celebrate our fifth anniversary. We would like to have one last name for the four of us. We have no idea where to start

How do you change your last name quickly and inexpensively?
You start at the social security office. They'll need you to prove your identity and provide the marriage certificate. Its free. Next stop is the driver's license and they also require the marriage certificate. Small fee. Most credit card companies, telephone companies, etc. take your word for it and don't require any proof.

If you're wanting to change your daughter's names I think that's a longer and more complicated process that will cost money.
Reply:I would suggest calling your local social security office. You usually take your marriage certificate there after you get married. They will be able to tell you what you need to do.
Reply:Prothonatary's office in the county courthouse.
Reply:Take your marriage certificate to the SS office and it's free to change it there.
Reply:Is the daughter's father alive???

You will need his permission...

Unless of course, your husband is willing to adopt
